What is NatCon?

The Australian National Speculative Fiction Convention or NatCon is the annual speculative fiction convention of fans and writers. Each convention is run by a different committee unaffiliated with any national fannish body. Now in its 55th year, NatCon continues to expand and grow is the event for writers and fans of speculative fiction in Australia.

The Natcon is not an independent series of conventions; rather, one Australian convention is designated to be the Natcon each year, and it moves around between states regularly. The NatCon Standing Committee oversees the bid process for each NatCon and the administration of the Ditmar Awards.

Each NatCon is run on a not-for-profit basis and all revenue goes towards programming and logistics of delivering the con.

NatCon is home to the Ditmar Awards, the annual fan-based awards recognising achievement in Australian science fiction (including fantasy and horror) and science fiction fandom.
